Event 1006: unable to process mailbox move requests

Event 1006: unable to process mailbox move requests

Postby Ernie » Mon Sep 20, 2010 1:34 pm

On an exchange 2010 server I keep getting this warning in my event log:
    Event 1006
    Source: MSExchange Mailbox Replication

The Mailbox Replication service was unable to process mailbox move requests in a mailbox database.
    Database: <your database name>
Error: MapiExceptionUnknownUser: Unable to open message store. (hr=0x80004005, ec=1003)
On the server that is giving you the error, execute the following command:

    Get-MoveRequest

This will show which mailboxes have Completed, are still In Progress or Queued

You might see an invalid move request for the old database which you can remove by using the following :!: make sure you don't have any valid Move requests in progress before executing the following :!: :

    Get-MoveRequest | Remove-MoveRequest
Resolution:

What you should do is restart the MSExchangeMailboxReplication service on any CAS machine where this event is being encountered. This error occurs because the MailboxReplicationService (MRS) currently caches Mailbox Database information past the lifetime of some databases. Restarting the service will clear the cache. Restarting the service should be a safe operation, and there will be no loss of service if there are no active/pending MoveRequests.
